Divoká Šárka is a nature reserve on the northwestern outskirts of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. You can easily reach the nature reserve with tram 26 or bus 119, the bus that also runs to and from the airport. From the bus and tram stop you walk down the road behind the MC Donalds to enter the park. In Divoká Šárka you suddenly walk in the middle of Prague between the rocks, a truly special experience.
Around the 6th century, the Slavs came to the Divoká Šárka area. In the 7th to 9th century there was a Slavic settlement above the Džbán gorge, with an area of about 20 ha (fortified settlement of 3 ha).
A gorge in the area is named after the female warrior Šárka, who, according to ancient Bohemian legends, threw herself to death from the cliffs after betraying her lover Ctirad during the Virgin War.
It is the closest place to the city where the black woodpecker lives.
There is a lake Džbán (The Thrower) on the border of the Divoká Šárka Reserve and a public swimming pool in the middle of the reserve. The water of the pool is supplied by clean and fresh water from the Šárka spring creek that runs through the park and the lake.In Divoká Šárka you can take beautiful walks. Below is a route description:
Go down the stairs behind the McDonalds.
When you are at the very bottom of the stairs, turn left.
You will come to a bicycle and footpath, follow this path and always follow the road to the right (note there are many height differences).
If you keep walking with the path to the right, you will eventually end up in the middle of a residential area. Here you turn right and walk into the street “Nad Lávkou”.
At the first intersection, follow the curve to the left and turn into the street “K Červenému vrchu”.
Take the first right into “Na Luzích”.
Walk all the way down the street “Na Luzích” and you will arrive at the end point of the tour, metro station and bus and tram stop “Nádraží Veleslavín”.
