Huig
Walking through an open-air museum with our regular guide and editor Huig
Dobrý den I am Huig owner of I love Praag. I am a young Dutch man in my thirties who previously worked in healthcare and then worked with great passion as a bus driver in and around the beautiful city of Utrecht, the most beautiful city in the Netherlands. In addition to this work, I work as one of the permanent guides of I Love Praag in Prague and I first gave guided tours in the Czech city of Prague as a hobby and now professionally. This is because I am in love with this European capital.
Once, almost forced, I made my first trip to Prague through school. At that moment I thought what am I doing here. What am I supposed to do in the Czech Republic anyway? At the insistence of my parents, I decided to go along, after all, according to them, it was a bargain. Well, I went along and braved the more than 12 hour bus journey.
I'm so glad that I finally went along because my love for Prague developed directly from that trip. During the school trip we had a mandatory program in the mornings and on the first day it was visiting a healthcare institution. The luck I had was that the Czech guide who accompanied our group spoke good English (which could be rare at the time because people in the Czech Republic only learned Russian as a foreign language during communism) and this person helped me and our group Afterwards we were shown all the way around the city. This immediately gave me an advantage in knowledge compared to every other tourist.
Besides the fact that I currently live entirely in Prague, I am of course still interested in other European cities and visit them frequently. But no matter how beautiful a city like Rome or Berlin is, it doesn't spark in me like it did when I walked out of the airport in Prague.

In addition to my work in the city of Prague, I can also regularly be found outside Prague. For example, I am associated with the Theresienstadt concentration camp as a Dutch and German-speaking guide.
I am currently also learning the Czech language, but that is really difficult. Still, I don't rule out that I will one day speak Czech fluently. I have now also completely emigrated and live in the city of Prague.
